DIY Halloween Decorations - Bubbling Witches Cauldron Tutorial
I found this super cool witches cauldron here http://christybuonomophoto.blogspot.com/2010/10/bubbling-cauldron.html
so I decided to make my own!
This is what I used
- 1 16oz cauldron for $7 at Walmart (I found them at Party City too for a dollar cheaper)
- 1 can of Great Stuff spray foam (the original red bottle)
- 1 paper plate that covers the lid of the cauldron
- 1 jar of green paint (I used valspar 7.2 oz in parakeet green) *note this is not waterproof so don't leave it out in the rain.
- 1 foam paint brush
- Assorted packages of bugs, bones, etc (I got these at the dollar store)
- Pair of disposable gloves
- Hot glue gun
First do this outside. Place paper plate on the cauldron.
Put on the disposable glove and spray the Great Stuff according to the directions on the bottle until it cover the plate and drips down the sides. Do this slowly and remember that the foam will expand over time so don't get too carried away. Don't forget to shake the can for at least 30 seconds first. I used less than 1 can.
Wait until the foam dries (about 6-8 hours). Then pain the foam using the foam paint brush. I had lots of left over pain so I have to come up with another project to use it.
After the paint dries, plug in your hot glue gun (I did this part inside). Randomly glue on the spider and bugs. I also had a small skeleton hand so I used that too. And you're done!
Cauldron $7 Only $6 if you get it from Party City (found that out later)
Spray foam $3.78 but you can get it for $3 at Walmart (I didn't use the whole and used the leftovers for my giant spider project coming soon)
Green pain $3
Foam brush $0 I had one on hand but you can buy them for about $.50
Creepy centipede type bugs $1 at dollar tree
Spiders $0 I had left overs from my spider egg sack project. (See it here http://kayla-kreates.blogspot.com/2014/10/diy-halloween-decorations-spider-egg.html)
Skeleton hand $0 but I think you can get these at the dollar store too
Total for me $14.78
Total for you $15.50
DIY Halloween Decorations
This year I want to finally decorate my yard for Halloween! The only problem is I don't have any money to spend on decorations, so i'm going to try and DIY my way through some Halloween props.
I'm going to make a grim reaper, some tombstones, a witch, a bubbling cauldron, burning coals to go underneath the cauldron, a giant spider, 2 spider egg sacks, and more! Stay tuned for tutorials.

DIY Halloween Decorations - Spider Egg Sacks
I found this great picture on Pinterest of these spider egg sacks and knew I needed to make some for Halloween!
They ended up looking like this
They ended up looking like this
What you will need for 1 egg sack is
- 1 knee or thigh high white stocking
- Baseball or rock
- 1-2 packages of 24 count black clip on party favor spiders (I got these at party city for $.99 a package
- 1 package of 50 count black mini party favor spiders
- 1 package of poly fill
- Hot glue gun
Plug in your hot glue gun so it can warm up. Then take your baseball and wrap it in the poly-fil.
Stretch your stocking around the wrapped baseball.
Place some small spiders in-between the poly-fil and the stocking.
Put the hot glue on the back of the clip on spiders and press then to the filled stocking one at a time with the most spiders at the bottom and progressively less spiders as you get to the top.
Total Cost
Stocking $0 (I already had them) about $5 if you bought them
Baseball $0 (We already had some) about $3 or use a rock for free
Poly-fil $0 (has some on hand for our Christmas village) about $5
50 ct package of mini spiders $1
2 25ct packages of clip on siders $2
I spent $3 but I made 2 so I spent $4 total
It would probably cost you around $16 or $20 for 2
